Early in my career I learned to use social media as a tool to reach new audiences by sharing links to stories, engaging with followers and discovering story ideas. Besides handling my own personal Instagram and Twitter accounts (@_shelbyreynolds), I also co-managed the Instagram account of Jean Le Boeuf, the local food critic, who has more than 2,700 followers. I pushed for more use of the Instagram stories feature as a way to engage more with followers and share links to web content.
On Facebook I helped manage the Facebook page for Jean Le Boeuf and a Facebook group called Bite Into SWFL dedicated to local foodies. In 2017 I helped lead a newsroom training on how journalists can use Facebook Live. Social media best practices are always evolving, and I’m confident in my abilities to learn new skills in an ever-changing digital landscape.
